🎄 Recognizing the Holiday Spiral 🎄
Theme: R for Recognize + Holiday Overwhelm
December always reveals something about me: I forget to breathe. (anyone else?)
No, really — the holidays arrive and suddenly I’m planning, buying, cooking, remembering, forgetting, overthinking… and under-breathing.
This year I decided to meet all of it with R:
Recognize — the first step of RAIN and the first class I’ll be teaching in March.
And wow… what a month to practice this.
The moment it hit me (aka: mid-cookie awakening)
Last week, I found myself standing in the kitchen, stress-eating a cookie while planning my entire month in my head. I was:
chewing
mentally scrolling through gifts
worrying about a client email
replaying a conversation from two days ago
trying to remember where I left my keys
and then some!:)
My body was in the kitchen.
But my mind was unraveling the next four weeks.
Suddenly I caught myself — not by mindfulness mastery, but because I almost choked on a crumb.
I remember that (for god’s sake!) I am an aspiring mindfulness teacher after all so:
I dropped my shoulders.
I took one breath.
And I said softly, inside:
“Overwhelm.”
“Rushing.”
“Tightness.”
That was R (ecognizing)
Noticing.
Naming.
Without trying to fix anything.
Recognition doesn’t solve the moment — it reconnects me to it
My schedule was still full.
The holidays were still happening.
But I was back in my body again.
And that changes the whole tone of my day.
A gentle invitation
This December, you might try:
Name one thing you’re feeling — without trying to change it.
Just one.
Just once.
Just today.
That’s enough.
